Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 15.2-1411.1 as follows:

§15.2-1411.1. Certain governing body appointments prohibited.

Notwithstanding any other provision of law, general or special, no local governing body shall appoint a spouse, child, stepchild, parent, stepparent, or grandparent of a governing body member as a member of any local government board, committee, or commission or as a member of a board of directors of a not-for-profit organization that receives funding from the locality.
