S.B. No. 1109 AN ACT relating to the authority of certain political subdivisions to change the date of the general election for officers. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 41.0052, Election Code, is amended by adding Subsections (a-1) and (a-2) to read as follows: (a-1) The governing body of a municipality that is intersected by State Highway 171 and U.S. Highway 377 and that holds its general election for officers on the November uniform election date may, not later than December 31, 2018, change the date on which it holds its general election for officers to the May uniform election date. This subsection expires January 1, 2019. (a-2) The governing body of a political subdivision, other than a county, located in a county that contains an intersection of U.S. Highway 277 and U.S. Highway 180 and that holds its general election for officers on the November uniform election date may, not later than December 31, 2018, change the date on which it holds its general election for officers to the May uniform election date. This subsection expires January 1, 2019. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.
