SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 57 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Lieutenant Richard L. Jankovsky III on the occasion of his retirement after 23 years of dedicated service with the Texas Department of Public Safety and in recognition of his distinguished tenure as president of the Department of Public Safety Officers Association; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jankovsky began his career with the Texas Department of Public Safety in 2002 in Los Fresnos; he rose through the ranks with determination and professionalism, and he has held posts as a sergeant and lieutenant in Laredo and as a lieutenant in Corpus Christi, Victoria, and most recently, in Three Rivers; and WHEREAS, Prior to joining the department, Richard Jankovsky honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1997 to 2001, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to serving and protecting others; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jankovsky played vital roles in critical operations including disaster response efforts beginning with Hurricane Rita and in ongoing border security missions since 2008; his leadership, commitment, and courage have been instrumental in protecting the people of Texas during some of the state's most challenging times; and WHEREAS, Beyond his operational responsibilities, Lieutenant Jankovsky has distinguished himself over the course of his seven years of service as president of the Department of Public Safety Officers Association; during his tenure, he tirelessly represented and advocated for his fellow officers before the 86th, 87th, 88th, and 89th Texas Legislatures, championing their interests and welfare, promoting the highest standards of conduct and ethical service, and fostering a culture of excellence within the department; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jankovsky was raised in Stockdale, where he grew up working in watermelon and peanut fields, and he now resides in Refugio; a man deeply devoted to his family and community, he and his wife of 25 years, Joann, are the proud parents of Jeremy, a United States Navy veteran, and Kaitlyn, the first college graduate in their family; and WHEREAS, Lieutenant Jankovsky's personal commitment to service extends beyond law enforcement; motivated by his daughter's successful battle with childhood cancer, he and his family have been tireless advocates for children's health, supporting Driscoll Children's Hospital, hosting blood drives with the South Texas Blood Bank, raising funds for Saint Baldrick's Foundation and the Dewville Social Club, and supporting Trinity Oaks Foundation programs for children with cancer and children of fallen officers; and WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Lieutenant Jankovsky has exemplified the highest qualities of integrity, leadership, and public service; his legacy of courage and compassion will continue to inspire all who follow in his path; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Lieutenant Richard L. Jankovsky III on his exceptional career with the Texas Department of Public Safety and on his unwavering dedication to serving the people of Texas and extend to him best wishes in all of his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
