H.R. No. 51 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The third annual Cindy Walker Days fundraiser took place in Mexia on July 19, 2025; and WHEREAS, Hosted by the Cindy Walker Foundation, the music and songwriters festival attracted hundreds of visitors to Mexia, where the late songwriting legend Cindy Walker lived for more than five decades; the event featured live performances from a variety of artists, including country singer Kevin Fowler, Western swing group Katie Shore & the Dusty Skies, and singer-songwriter Suzy Bogguss; the festival also held a barn dance, paying homage to Ms. Walker's early career; and WHEREAS, The Texas A&M University Department of Architecture is collaborating with the Cindy Walker Foundation to restore the home of Ms. Walker using cutting-edge 3D scanning technology; the project aims to preserve an important piece of Texas history, and it is part of a larger effort to promote tourism to Mexia; and WHEREAS, Inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1997, Cindy Walker penned hundreds of songs over the course of her decades-long career; some of her notable compositions include "You Don't Know Me," which was recorded by Elvis Presley and Ray Charles, "Cherokee Maiden," "I Don't Care," and "Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream)," a smash hit for Roy Orbison; and WHEREAS, Since its inception, Cindy Walker Days has offered country music fans a fun way to support a worthwhile cause, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the legacy of Cindy Walker; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the third annual Cindy Walker Days event and commend Texas A&M University for its partnership with the Cindy Walker Foundation.
