SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 75          WHEREAS, July 30, 2025, marks the 60th anniversary of the   signing of the Medicare and Medicaid Act; and          WHEREAS, On that day in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson   signed the Medicare and Medicaid Act, also known as the Social   Security Amendments of 1965, into law; the landmark bill   established two programs: Medicare, which provides health   insurance to citizens age 65 or older, and Medicaid, which provides   health insurance to people with limited income; during the first   three years following the passage of the legislation, nearly 20   million beneficiaries were enrolled in the programs; and          WHEREAS, Across the United States, 68.6 million   individuals are currently enrolled in Medicare, and 71.1 million   are enrolled in Medicaid, with approximately 12 million people   enrolled in both programs; as of 2024, there were more than 4.7   million Texans receiving Medicare benefits, and in April 2025,   over 4.1 million adults and children in Texas were enrolled in   Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP); and          WHEREAS, Over the past six decades, the Medicare and   Medicaid programs have made vital health care services more   accessible to generations of Americans, and it is indeed a   privilege to join in celebrating this important milestone; now,   therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature,   1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 60th anniversary of   the signing of the Medicare and Medicaid Act.     Johnson     Alvarado Eckhardt Miles   Blanco Gutierrez West   Cook Hinojosa of Hidalgo Zaffirini   Menéndez     Patrick, President of the Senate             ________________________________          President of the Senate               I hereby certify that the     above Resolution was adopted by     the Senate on August 15, 2025.             ________________________________          Secretary of the Senate             ________________________________           Member, Texas Senate
