No. 66 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Linda Escobar of Corpus Christi hosted an event on August 3, 2025, to celebrate her 60th anniversary as a conjunto and Tejano artist; and WHEREAS, A native of Alice, Ms. Escobar developed a deep love for music during her childhood, and she began performing with her father, Eligio Escobar, a pioneer of the conjunto genre; the duo toured the nation with other artists, and they shared writing credits on her 1965 hit song, "Frijolitos Pintos," which sold over a million records and propelled her rise to stardom at just seven years old; and WHEREAS, After attending high school and college, Ms. Escobar established her own band, ZAMEN, and she performed in guest spots with other renowned artists; she eventually began collaborating with Japanese accordionist Kenji Katsube and his group, Conjunto J, developing an eclectic style of music that blended both Asian and Tex-Mex genres; after Mr. Katsube tragically died of cancer in May 2003, she paid tribute to his memory with a collection of songs titled Llorando En Silencio, which featured such tracks as "El Corrido de Kenji" and "Lonely Letters"; and WHEREAS, Known to her fans as "the Queen of Conjunto," Ms. Escobar founded a label, Escobar Records, and she and her conjunto group recorded the albums Dejenme Vivir Mi Vida, Conjunto Dream, Mi Cantina, and Con Sentimento y Corazon; she released the album La Diva de Conjunto in August 2008, and her discography also includes the 2019 album La Revancha; in addition, she honored her late mother, Jesusa, with a 2017 collection titled Vi Una Nube, which features covers of songs that her mother enjoyed singing; and WHEREAS, Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Escobar has been inducted into the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame in Alice, the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame in San Benito, the Narciso Martinez Hall of Fame in San Antonio, and the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in Corpus Christi; in 2019, she was presented with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement honor at the Tejano Music Awards hosted by Texas Talent Musicians Association; and WHEREAS, Ms. Escobar is retired from a rewarding career with the State of Texas; for 24 years, she has ably overseen the El Veterano Conjunto Festival, which she founded in memory of her father; proceeds from the event benefit the Eligio Escobar Scholarship Fund; and WHEREAS, Linda Escobar has made exceptional contributions to the advancement of Tejano and conjunto music, and in so doing, she has helped to enrich the vibrant culture of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Linda Escobar on her 60th anniversary in the music industry and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Escobar as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
