89S20937 HMR-D     By: Lalani H.R. No. 82       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, The U.S. Army marked the 250th anniversary of the   Continental Army on June 14, 2025, in Houston, Texas; and          WHEREAS, On June 14, 1775, the delegates to the Second   Continental Congress established the Continental Army as a means   for the 13 unified American colonies to fight Britain; the soldiers   in the six newly created companies of expert riflemen took an oath   of enlistment, and on June 15, Congress elected George Washington   as commander in chief of the colonies' first official army; its   battle cry was "This We'll Defend," a motto that endures today;   after the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776,   the Continental Army and the militia serving Congress became known   as the Army of the United States; and          WHEREAS, The modern army is composed of active-duty troops as   well as two reserve components, the Army Reserve and the Army   National Guard; the operational army conducts missions around the   world through the service of its numbered armies, corps, divisions,   brigades, and battalions, and the institutional army provides the   infrastructure and support necessary to train, equip, deploy, and   ensure the readiness of all army forces; and          WHEREAS, For two and a half centuries, the U.S. Army has   played a critical role in the development and defense of the nation   while safeguarding its values and interests, and this momentous   milestone provides a welcome opportunity to acknowledge the immense   debt of gratitude we owe to the men and women who have carried out   its vital mission; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 250th   anniversary of the U.S. Army; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for the U.S. Army's 5th Brigade as an expression of high   regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
